As the mixture begins to freeze, it's important to continuously scrape the sides of the cup with the included spoon. This helps prevent a thin layer of ice from sticking to the walls and ensures the freezing process is even, resulting in that perfect slushy texture.
Additionally, for the slush to form properly, it's essential that the ingredients used contain a good amount of natural or added sugar. Sugar plays a key role in lowering the freezing point of the mixture, which allows it to remain slushy rather than becoming a solid block of ice. Fruit juices, regular sodas, or other sweetened beverages typically work great. Just make sure you do not use diet or sugar free ingredients as these will not work.
